Cheese and Charcuterie Board ~ simple, stress-free entertaining. A display of meats, cheeses, bread, fruit and nuts. Goes perfectly with wine.
I’ve always loved hosting friends and family in our home long before I started blogging. The first time I invited the family over, I was a naïve, clueless newlywed. This was long before Google and Pinterest so not knowing what to make, I cooked pretty much. . .everything.
It looked like an all-you-can-eat buffet at the Golden Corral and I made everything myself from scratch having refused offers of help. That didn’t make me a kitchen ninja. It just made me a crazy woman.
I’ve done a lot of entertaining since then and I’m much more relaxed now (don’t listen to a word my kids say). One reason is that I’ve simplified things and learned to serve food like this Cheese and Charcuterie Board that makes an appearance at almost every gathering at our house.

I’ve belonged to a book club for the last dozen years or so. We started out as (library) card-carrying, book-toting readers back when we had kids with curfews still living at home. The kids are all out on their own now but we still get together and though you’d think we have even more time now, somehow we don’t, so we now skip the book and somewhere along the way morphed into a Wine Club. The women in this club, my friends are each beautiful, strong, supportive and just happen to enjoy a glass of wine and really good food as much as I do, like this Caramelized Onion Goat Cheese Pizza.
Let me start by saying I am not one of those people who finished her Christmas shopping by Halloween. I had good intentions. I really did. . .but then life happened. Entertaining, however does not have to be time consuming, expensive or difficult. Whaaaat? That’s right. It’s true. My single favorite appetizer, this Easy Inexpensive Charcuterie Board requires only one trip to the store and not a single burner or oven. It’s fun, festive and has some serious wow factor going on too. All the meats and cheeses you see on this board are from ALDI ~ my favorite place for cheese. Truly if you aren’t an ALDI shopper (parent company of Trader Joe), you’re missing out. The one pictured below was for a small, pre-holiday gathering. I’ll bring out the big
guns board for Christmas Eve and our larger gathering and fill it with even more deliciousness.
Wine Down, Girls Night, Book/Wine Club whatever you call it, this is one of my favorite nights of the month, Book/Wine Club with some of my favorite women. We’re started as (library) card-carrying, book-toting readers about a dozen years ago. That fact amazes me almost as much as these women do. They are each beautiful, creative, strong, supportive, great advice-givers, amazing home cooks and they enjoy a glass of wine as much as I do. Other women have joined and left, but this core group of five has withstood the test of time, life issues and triumphs. We are more than a Book/Wine Club, we are a sorority of sorts, offering encouragement, understanding, acceptance and when all else fails, a sense of humor.
