Blue Cheese Honey Appetizer ~ the bold flavor of blue cheese is paired with sweet, locally sourced honey and warm, lightly toasted artisan bread for a simple, 3-ingredient appetizer.
For the record, I can’t take credit for this Blue Cheese Honey Appetizer even though I ate it twice in just one weekend at Taste restaurant during a recent girls’ trip. The talented chef at Taste gets all the credit; I never imagined how outrageously good pairing these two flavors would be and I’m glad for the chance to share it with you.
Blue Cheese Honey Appetizer is hardly a recipe at all. It’s actually more of an idea, bordering on a recommendation (from me) and so easy I guarantee you can’t mess it up. Simple, understated, it packs serious wow factor and takes almost no time to assemble.
Blue Cheese Honey Appetizer is just three ingredients ~ a wedge of good quality blue cheese, some locally sourced honey and a few slices of good artisan bread.
Artisan just means extra care that was taken in the making of the bread. It can be white, French or even a whole grain, but good quality bread, honey and cheese are important. Since there are only three ingredients, so each should stand on its own.
Do you know the difference between blue (bleu) cheese and gorgonzola?
I didn’t, but was curious because I love the delicious bold flavor of blue and buy it (or gorgonzola) pretty routinely. I researched and found that Blue cheese is a general category of cheeses bearing the prominent blue-green veins through it. Gorgonzola is a specific variety of the blue cheese family, one of the oldest blue cheeses and is produced mainly in northern Italy. I love how we can learn together!
Blue Cheese Honey Appetizer Ingredients:
- ½ pound wedge of good quality blue cheese
- ¼ cup locally sourced honey (or less according to your taste)
- Loaf of artisan bread
Bring the cheese to room temperature, crumble some (or all) of it and drizzle the honey over the top. Depending upon your taste, you may not use all of the honey listed in the ingredients.
Warm and slice the bread and serve. As you can see, I added some apple slices. Other seasonal fruits would also be delicious or even some chopped pecans.
On a side note, September is National Honey Month, which promotes American beekeeping, the beekeeping industry and the health benefits of honey as a natural sweetener.
Any extra blue cheese can be made into a creamy sauce over roast beef, crumbled in salad or as part of a cheese and charcuterie board.
I recommend pairing Blue Cheese Honey Appetizer with your favorite wine, like this Rosé. Enjoy!

I was also on a girls trip to South Haven Mi. where we stopped in to Taste and had this AMAZING app. We ordered a second round. I have since made it for my ladies wine time nights.

Hi Kathy – I literally could not get enough of this restaurant! We also had their Chicken Pesto Mac and Cheese that was out of this world good! I have my version on the site if you’re interested in trying it. – Thanks for commenting – makes me want to go back again!!
