WHAT’S IN BLUEBERRY VODKA LEMONADE?
This is a simple recipe with only a few ingredients you can easily find at the grocery store.
Fresh lemons and blueberries are the key to this perfect summer cocktail.
It’s ideal after a long day or on a hot summer afternoon. Here’s what you’ll need:
- fresh squeezed lemon juice from 6-8 large lemons1 cup fresh lemon juice (approx. 5-7 large lemons)
- blueberry simple syrup (recipe below)
- your favorite vodka
- water
BLUEBERRY SIMPLE SYRUP:
The blueberry simple syrup is made of equal parts water, sugar and blueberries.
- granulated sugar
- fresh blueberries
- water
- You’ll also need a fine mesh sieve to strain the berries.
- If wild blueberries are in season where you are, they’d be delicious in this recipe.
HOW TO MAKE BLUEBERRY VODKA LEMONADE:
Blueberry Simple Syrup:
Add blueberries, sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 8-10 minutes or until the sugar is dissolved and the berries have burst.
As the berries are simmering, use a fork or the back of a spoon to gently mash the berries.
Drain the syrup through the fine mesh sieve into a glass jar or container getting as much of the juice without pushing the berries through.
Discard the remaining berry skins. Cool completely and refrigerate.
NOTE: this can be made up to 3 days ahead of time.
Lemon Juice:
Using a citrus juicer, squeeze lemons to get about 1 cup of lemon juice.
Assembly:
To a pitcher add lemon juice, vodka and blueberry syrup. Stir to combine.
Add ice to glasses then fill with Blueberry Vodka Lemonade.
Garnish with lemon slices, blueberries and a sprig of fresh mint then enjoy right away!
VARIATIONS TO THIS RECIPE:
- Add a splash of club soda just before serving for a bubbly cocktail.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves instead of mint.
- Try other fresh fruit simple syrup like blackberry or raspberry.
- Add triple sec for an extra punch of citrus.
WHAT TO DO WITH LEFTOVER SIMPLE SYRUP:
Any leftover blueberry syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
Use for more cocktails or spoon over ice cream.
