Green Smoothie made with simple ingredients: pineapple, spinach, plain Greek yogurt and banana. A delicious, energizing way to start your day!
Smoothies sometimes get a bum rap, amiright? It’s totally undeserved.
- They’re a delicious, refreshing meal or snack
- Whip up quickly with fresh ingredients
- The ultimate breakfast on the go
- Packed with protein and other nutrients
- Homemade is way less expensive than juice bars!
- A tasty way to get in your greens!
Today I’m sharing my favorite Green Smoothie Recipe plus tips for making the BEST smoothie.
A word about the ingredients:
Basically, for the best smoothie you want a fruit, a veggie and a protein. I love the flavor combo of pineapple and ripe bananas in this smoothie but there are many other varieties. Get creative!
FRUIT: Buy fresh fruit if it’s available, but frozen fruit is also a great option. It’s as nutritious as fresh plus often more affordable!
Pineapple and mango, with their neutral color help retain the vibrant green color of the smoothie. Red or blue fruits, while delicious will give the smoothie a brownish tone.
Did you know you can freeze bananas? Peel them first then load into a freezer safe container and store up to 2 months in the freezer.
VEGETABLE: The spinach in this recipe gives it the dynamic green color and adds nutritional value. I sneak spinach into lots of recipes like Lasagna Soup and one pan Shrimp Scampi with Orzo. It doesn’t change the flavor one bit and adds extra vitamins we can all use.
There are good substitutes, however like kale or even cauliflower without altering the taste of the smoothie. Of course, if you use cauliflower, it won’t be green.
PROTEIN: The protein comes from plain Greek yogurt. My favorite brand is Fage 0% fat, plain Greek yogurt. The quality is excellent and it’s loaded with protein. It also has a nice creaminess to the texture.

How to make a green smoothie:

Are green smoothies good for you?
Yes! Green Smoothies are a great (and tasty!) way to add vegetables, fruit and protein to your diet.
Let’s talk blenders:
Blenders range in price like most things from high to low. If yours processes the ingredients well, you’re good to go. But if yours produces a chunky smoothie, it may be time for a new one.
I have a pretty basic Oster that has a smoothie setting. It was reasonably priced, a work horse and makes perfect, creamy smoothies.
