I don’t mind taking one for the team sometimes. I’ll gladly do it today for this Honey Garlic Salmon. That garlicky scent will linger on my fingertips long after the salmon is gone. I’ve tried different methods to get rid of the aroma, but even a couple of days after I can still catch a faint whiff. I’m totally okay with it because this salmon is well worth it. Browned butter, sweetened with honey, a bit of tang from fresh-squeezed lemon, some garlic and all of it infused with sage leaves. Pull up a chair for some delicious Honey Garlic Salmon and easy tips for how to make browned butter.
Come closer and check this out and then I’ll explain the garlic issue. This salmon packs so much flavor ~ the sweet, the tang, the buttery goodness. Your mouth won’t know what to do except to say mmmm and mmmmore! But okay. . . garlic. I have a terrible sense of direction. Even after all these years, it still baffles my husband who has an impeccable sense of direction. I even manage to get lost using GPS. God has a sense of humor though and even though He denied me a sense of direction, He blessed me with a wicked sense of smell. I’m talking bloodhound caliber. So maybe the aroma isn’t as bad as I’m thinking . . .
This sauce is out of this world. You may remember salmon is not among my husband’s favorite dishes. He will eat it though because he knows I like it and it’s good for him. My quest continues for a method, marinade, glaze or something that will make him sit up and say “hey, I actually love salmon”. I know. . .but a girl can dream. This sauce nearly sent him to that place.
I love to grill, but by mid-summer (and especially by late summer), I get a little tired of grilled food. I slowly start to transition to meals cooked indoors and eventually to my comfort food menu. This recipe is cooked indoors, but whips up quickly so it doesn’t heat up the house and is still light enough to enjoy on a warm day. I’m going to make it for my book club group next time they’re over. They’ll be swooning!Have you ever made browned butter?
It’s really easy and once you do, you’ll be searching Pinterest for other recipes to use it in, it’s that good. Browned butter is just butter that’s cooked until it turns brown and develops a delicious nutty scent and flavor. Butter can burn though, so let’s walk through this together.
- Cut the butter into pieces.
- Add the butter to the skillet over medium heat.
- Stir the butter allowing it to melt evenly. You’ll see it start to foam ~ keep stirring constantly.
- The foam will start to subside and you’ll see the butter become a light golden color with a delicious nutty aroma.
- That’s it! You just make browned butter.
Once your browned butter is complete, pour it into a bowl reserving just enough to coat the bottom of the skillet. Season the salmon filets with a pinch of sea salt and pepper. Reheat the skillet on medium heat and once it’s warm, lay the filets face down. Cook them 3-4 minutes over medium heat, then turn and continue cooking another 3-4 minutes or until the salmon is cooked through.
Remove the salmon filets from the skillet and pour the reserved browned butter back in. Add the grated garlic, honey, lemon juice and chopped sage leaves and simmer over low heat 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Drizzle the sauce over the salmon. I paired this Honey Garlic Salmon with a mixed vegetable brown rice but it would go well with a salad or any vegetable.
This recipe is for two people, which is usually all we have these days. For four people, just double it and so on.
How many people are usually around your table these days?
