Hummus makes a tasty snack and is a great option for an easy appetizer when you’re entertaining.

Whether you’re new to hummus or in the hummus lovers category and want some new ways to enjoy it, you’ve come to the right place.

I can eat hummus with just some warm naan, but read on for some great ideas that’ll take your hummus game to the next level.

WHAT IS HUMMUS?

Hummus is a savory creamy dip and healthy food made from garbanzo beans (chickpeas). It’s a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean staple and a delicious way to eat a more balanced diet.

You can buy a variety of flavors of hummus from the grocery store – from classic to red pepper hummus and even a chocolate dessert hummus!

It’s also super easy to make your own hummus with this easy, 10 minute recipe!

easy hummus recipe no tahini

This No Tahini Hummus is one the most popular recipes on my blog several years running.

It’s way less expensive than store bought hummus, tastes fantastic, whips up in under 10 minutes and you can tailor the flavor and texture to your own preferences.

WHAT TO EAT WITH HUMMUS:

Breads/Crackers/Crunchy:

  • Pita chips
  • Tortilla chips
  • Pretzels
  • Naan or pita bread
  • Bagel chips
  • Your favorite crackers
  • Kale chips
  • Warm flatbreads

Raw Vegetables:

  • Carrot sticks
  • Celery
  • Bell Peppers
  • Cucumber
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Jicama sticks
  • Snap peas

HOW TO TAKE STORE BOUGHT HUMMUS TO THE NEXT LEVEL:

It’s easy to ramp up the taste of basic hummus by blending in or garnishing with simple ingredients.

  • Pine nuts
  • Sesame seeds
  • Drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
  • Lemon zest and lemon juice
  • Sprinkle of paprika
  • Extra garlic
  • Fresh herbs
  • Sun dried tomatoes
  • Spice it up with chipotle or jalapeno peppers

Greek Charcuterie Board:

One of my favorite go-to appetizers for easy entertaining is a hummus platter with feta cheese, fresh vegetables, pita, tzatziki and some kalamata olives. It’s my version of a Greek Charcuterie Board and is always a hit with family and friends.

BUFFALO HUMMUS:

To make Buffalo Hummus blend 1 to 1 1/2 cups of traditional hummus with 2 teaspoons of dry ranch seasoning and 2-3 tablespoons of Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce (or your favorite hot sauce).

Garnish with crumbled blue cheese, finely chopped celery and serve.

queso HUMMUS:

To make Queso Hummus add 1 to 1 1/2 cups of traditional hummus to a saucepan over medium heat.

Blend in 2 tablespoons of finely chopped pickled jalapeno (ones in the jar) plus 2 tablespoons of the liquid from the jar.

Add 1 cup of shredded cheese (I used a combination of sharp cheddar and pepperjack) along with a pinch of salt stirring until the cheese has melted.

Taste and if you want it spicier add more jalapeno peppers then serve warm.

LEMONY EVERYTHING BAGEL HUMMUS:

Bright lemony flavor balanced with Everything But the Bagel Seasoning.

To make Lemony EBTB Hummus, blend 1-2 tablespoons of fresh squeezed lemon juice with traditional hummus then drizzle a little olive oil on top and finish it with a sprinkle of EBTB seasoning.

GREEK NACHOs:

This recipe is ideal with leftover or rotisserie chicken though you can also cook the chicken from scratch.

It’s layered like a classic nacho but starts with warm toasted naan bread cut in triangles topped with hummus, tzatziki, roasted chickpeas, tomatoes, cucumber and bell pepper plus some crumbled feta cheese.

GREEK LAYERED DIP:

This Greek Layered Dip is another incredibly popular recipe on my blog. It’s a Greek twist on the classic 7-layer dip and an easy, make ahead appetizer.

Layer hummus, tzatziki, tomatoes, cucumber, kalamata olives, feta and dill in a shallow dish (store bought main ingredients or make your own hummus and tzatziki).

Serve with pita or naan.

Enjoy!
