Equipment

  • cocktail shaker optional - or mix in a separate glass

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice from 4-5 limes
  • 1/2 cup good quality tequila
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • 3 tablespoon simple syrup bottled or homemade
  • 2 tablespoons coarse salt
  • ice

Instructions

  • Add coarse salt to a plate. Quarter one lime then rub the lime around the rim of the glass. Dip the glass in the salt, add ice to the glass and set aside.
  • Add tequila, fresh squeezed lime juice, orange liqueur and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker along with ice. Shake well. Note: if you don’t have a cocktail shaker, mix in a separate glass.
  • Taste and adjust for sweetness then pour into prepared glasses. Add lime wedge and drink right away.

Notes

Homemade Simple Syrup:
Add 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 1/2 cup of water to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat stirring often until the sugar has dissolved (2-3 minutes). Allow to cool completely.
