Ingredients
1largehoneycrisp applesliced (peel on)
1largeorangesliced (Cara Cara orange used, any is good)
2cinnamon sticks
1750 mldry red winecabernet, merlot, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon
2cupsfresh apple cidernot apple cider vinegar
1/4cupbourbon
1tablespoonpure maple syrupor more to taste
splashVernors or other ginger aleabout 1/4 c or to taste)
optional garnish:
3tablespoonscoarse or turbinado sugar
fresh mint leaves
Instructions
Reserve one slice of the orange then add the remaining orange slices, sliced apple and cinnamon sticks to a large glass pitcher.
Pour in wine, apple cider, bourbon and maple syrup. Stir gently to combine. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes before serving to let flavors come together.
To serve, rim glasses with reserved orange slice. Pour turbinado sugar onto a plate then dip or roll the glass in the sugar.
Carefullyl add ice to glasses without disturbing the sugar rim. Pour in sangria. Top with a splash of ginger ale and (optional) a sprig of fresh mint.
