Easy Slow Cooker Oatmeal

Creamiest oatmeal made completely in the slow cooker. Use old-fashioned (rolled) or steel-cut oats. For oatmeal lovers, this is the warm breakfast you want to wake up to all cold weather season long. Top with your favorite fruit or a handful of nuts.

Ingredients

  • cooking spray
  • 2 cups oats old fashioned or steel cut
  • 4 cups water
  • 3 cups milk Fairlife used - extra protein!
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons good quality maple syrup or add 2 extra tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Spray the bottom of the slow cooker and up the sides with cooking spray (or brush with vegetable oil).
  • Add oats, milk, water, maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and vanilla. Give it a good stir.
  • Cover and cook on LOW 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Cooking time will vary with slow cookers. You know yours – check the oatmeal near end of cooking and adjust cook time accordingly.

  • Steel cut oats will require a little more cooking time.
  • Don't use instant oats. They may overcook and get mushy. Stick with old-fashioned oats (also called rolled oats) or steel-cut oats for best results!
