Baja Fish Tacos – easy 10 minute air fryer recipe! Spicy seasoned cod, crunchy cabbage slaw topped with a creamy chipotle sauce wrapped in warm charred tortillas.
This recipe comes out of 1) my love of a good fish taco and 2) my second love … the air fryer.
The seasoned fish cooks in 10 minutes, the sauce whips up in less making this the ultimate weeknight meal for the busiest of busy nights.

WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED TO MAKE AIR FRYER BAJA FISH TACOS?
- 1 pound fresh cod
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 6 street taco size flour tortillas
- 2 cups finely shredded cabbage slaw
- extra lemon or lime wedges for serving
GRAB THESE INGREDIENTS FOR THECHIPOTLE FISH TACO SAUCE:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 chipotle peppers minced + 1 teaspoon adobo sauce (or more to taste)
- 1 teaspoon honey (or more to taste)
- 3 tablespoons fresh cilantro finely chopped
- pinch of salt
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER BAJA FISH TACOS:
Add the ingredients for the chipotle sauce to a small bowl. Stir to combine then refrigerate until ready to eat.
In a second small bowl, combine chili powder, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne, cumin, sea salt and black pepper.
Cut fish into 1″ thick pieces of cod about the length of your tortilla.
Pat pieces of fish dry with paper towels then brush both sides with oil.
Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees.
Generously season with spice mix and transfer to the preheated air fryer in a single layer.
Air fry 6-8 minutes or until cooked through to an internal temp of 145 degrees and light golden brown.
LET’S ASSEMBLE THESE AIR FRYER FISH TACOS:
I like to char my tortillas over a low flame on the stovetop. You can also do this in a skillet or simply warm in the microwave.
Spread chipotle sauce down the center of each tortilla. Sprinkle with slaw then lay a piece of fish on top.
Serve right away with an extra lemon or lime wedge.

VIP TIPS FOR SUBSTITUTIONS AND VARIATIONS:
- Warm corn tortillas instead of flour.
- All green cabbage or all red cabbage instead of mixed.
- Sliced red onion
- Fresh squeezed lemon juice.
- A dollop of sour cream.
- Mahi mahi, tilapia – even shrimp! can be used instead of cod.
- Vegetable oil or canola oil instead of olive.

Fish Taco Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoon sour cream OR greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 whole chipotle pepper minced + 1 teaspoon adobo sauce
- 1 teaspoon honey or more to taste
- 3 tablespoons cilantro finely chopped
- pinch salt
Instructions
- Blend fish taco sauce in a small bowl. Transfer to the refrigerator until you're ready to eat.
- Combine chili powder, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne, cumin, sea salt and black pepper in another small bowl.
- Cut fish into 1″ thick pieces of cod about the length of your tortilla.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees and lightly spray the basket with cooking spray.
- Pat pieces of fish dry with paper towels then brush all sides with oil.
- Generously season with spice mix and transfer to the preheated air fryer in a single layer then lightly spray the top of each piece of fish with cooking spray.
- Air fry 6-8 minutes or until cooked through to an internal temp of 145 degrees. Cook time with vary with size of fish.
- To assemble: (optional) lightly char tortillas over a low flame on the stovetop. You can also do this in a skillet or simply warm in the microwave.
