- ✅ Family-friendly
- ✅ Easy to customize – use deli ham or leftover holiday ham
Ingredients needed for Baked Ham and Cheese Sliders:
For the Sliders:
- slider buns
- shaved or very thinly sliced deli ham
- thinly sliced cheese (I’m using cheddar – any melty cheese works)
- parchment paper
For the Honey Mustard Butter Glaze:
- melted butter
- Dijon mustard
- Worcestershire sauce
- hot honey (can swap regular honey)
- poppy seeds
- dried minced onion
- salt
optional: flaky sea salt
How to make Baked Ham and Cheese Sliders:
Step 1: Preheat and prep
Preheat oven 350 degrees. Line a 9 x 13 baking dish with parchment paper so there’s overhang on two of the sides.
Step 2: Make the honey mustard butter
In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Whisk in:

- Dijon mustard
- Worcestershire sauce
- Hot honey
- Poppy seeds
- Dried minced onion
Set aside.
Step 3: Assemble the sliders
Slice the slider buns horizontally to separate the tops and bottoms.

- Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish.
- Layer half of the cheddar cheese, trimming as needed to fully cover the rolls.
- Add the ham evenly over the cheese.
- Top with another layer of cheese slices.
- Place the top buns over the cheese layer.
Step 4: Add the glaze
Use a pastry brush to brush the honey mustard butter mixture evenly over the top and sides of the rolls.

Step 5: Bake
Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for 5 more minutes or until the tops are lightly browned and the cheese is melty.
Use the parchment paper to lift the sliders from the baking dish on to a cutting board.
Optional sprinkle with flaky sea salt. Slice with a sharp, serrated knife into individual sandwiches. Serve warm.

Subs and variations:
- Use different cheese like swiss or gruyere.
- Swap leftover holiday ham (slice as thin as possible) instead of deli ham.
- Try different slider bun, including pretzel buns.
What to serve with Ham and Cheese Sliders:
These sliders pair well with so many sides! Here are a few of my favorites:
- your favorite potato chips
- Homemade Potato Salad
- Coleslaw
- Fresh fruit salad
- Dill pickles
- Tomato soup
- French fries or sweet potato fries
Storage and reheating:
Cool completely then store in an airtight container in the fridge up to 3 days.
To reheat, air fry 3-5 minutes at 325 degrees (or ‘warm’ setting) or until heated through or microwave at 30 second intervals until warm
Can you freeze Ham and Cheese Sliders?
Yes! These sliders freeze beautifully.
To freeze before baking:
- Assemble the sliders (don’t add butter topping yet).
- Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then a freezer safe zip top bag
- Freeze for up to 2 months.
- Thaw overnight in the refrigerator add butter mixture and bake.
To freeze after baking:
- Cool sliders completely.
- Wrap tightly and store in a freezer-safe container.
- Freeze for up to 2 months.
Tips for the best Ham and Cheese Sliders:
- Use thinly sliced cheese for even melting.
- Cover with foil for the first part of baking. This keeps the tops from getting too brown and warms the ham and cheese inside.
- Swap cheeses – cheddar, swiss, provolone or smoked gouda all work well.
Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use regular honey instead of hot honey?
Yes! Regular honey works perfectly if you don’t want any heat.
What type of ham works best?
Shaved or very thinly sliced deli ham works as well as leftover holiday ham (sliced as thin as possible).
Can I make these ahead of time?
Absolutely. Assemble the sliders up to 24 hours in advance, cover tightly and refrigerate. Wait to add butter mixture until just before baking.
Can I make these without poppy seeds?
Yes! You can leave the rolls plain, add sesame seeds instead or even Everything Bagel Seasoning.
How do I keep the bottoms from getting soggy?
Lining the baking dish with parchment paper (instead of greasing it), plus baking them covered with aluminum foil avoids soggy rolls.

LOVE a good ham and melty cheese sammie – especially these with a butter-hot honey-dijon topping. Added bonus that it works with deli ham or that leftover holiday ham staring at me in the fridge!
