Loaded French Onion Dip – next level Lipton Soup recipe plus crispy bacon, cheddar cheese and green onions. Easy 5 minute recipe!
Friends, I have a confession. I love potato chips and if there’s dip involved, well . . . there’s just no stopping me. But it has to be really good dip – loaded with tons of flavor and worthy of my favorite chips.
Creamy French Onion Chip Dip blended with sharp shredded cheddar cheese and some crispy bacon bits. Store-bought dip can’t touch this one. Don’t even try.
What I love about this recipe:
- DELICIOUS blend of flavors – takes good to irresistible.
- 5 MINUTES to make from simple, grocery store ingredients.
- MAKE AHEAD up to one day for easy entertaining.
- TIP: Full fat classic sour cream was used. You can sub light sour cream or Greek yogurt but, sorry – the dip won’t have the same decadence.
- TIP: Extra seasonings such as onion powder or garlic powder can be added, but it’s pretty perfect exactly as it is.
What’s in Loaded French Onion Dip?
This dip is a combination of sour cream and a few other ingredients below:
- tub of sour cream
- mayonnaise
- shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- real bacon bits (or sliced bacon cooked to crisp)
- Lipton soup-dip mix
- green onions
How to make Loaded French Onion Dip:
This dip couldn’t be any easier, even if it’s your first time making it.
To a medium bowl add the container of sour cream, one packet of Lipton onion soup mix, the mayonnaise, cheddar cheese and bacon bits.
Blend well being sure to get all the French onion soup mix from the bottom of the bowl then cover and refrigerate at least an hour to let the flavors come together.
Transfer to a serving bowl (optional) garnish with green onions, extra bacon bits and shredded cheese.
Serve with your favorite potato chips, pretzels, tortilla chips or fresh vegetables.
What to serve with French Onion Dip:
Your favorite salty potato chips, pretzels, corn chips, tortilla or fresh vegetables would all be great dippers.
What’s the difference between French Onion Dip and Onion Dip?
French Onion Dip is made using French Onion dip mix (Lipton Onion Soup Dip is my preference) which contains dried onion and beef bouillon.
Onion Dip is made using caramelized onions.
What kind of potato chips are best for dipping?
Crinkle cut Ruffles are my favorite chips with French Onion Dip but any thicker cut potato chip will work well.
You can also eat this dip with tortilla chips or fresh vegetables.
How long does French Onion Dip last?
This will last in an airtight container in the fridge up to 7 days (give it a good stir before eating).
I do not recommend freezing French Onion Dip. The texture will change as the dip thaws and it won’t be as creamy.
