This easy method for hard boiled eggs is perfect for anyone – especially if you’re like me frustrated waiting for a pot of boiling water.

Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs is one of the simplest and best kitchen hacks. No pot of cold water, no watching the stove and very little mess.

  • Perfect timing every time
  • Easy peeling shells, creamy yolks
  • consistent results

Why I love this air fryer method:

  • No waiting for boiling water
  • Hands off – no monitoring a pot on the stove
  • Easier peeling, even with fresh eggs

Ingredients needed to make Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs:

  • Large eggs

That’s it!

How to make Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs:

1. Add eggs to the basket

Gently place eggs in the air fryer basket in a single layer.

My Ninja 4-quart air fryer (1550 wattage) fits 12 eggs comfortably.

2. Set the temperature and cook time

No preheating needed. Just set the air fryer to 250 degrees and choose your preferred doneness for the air fryer eggs.

  • 12 minutes – soft-boiled eggs (jammy yolks)
  • 14 minutes – medium eggs
  • 16 minutes – classic hard-boiled eggs

3. Ice bath

While the eggs cook, fill a medium bowl with enough cold water and ice to submerge the eggs after the cook. The ice water bath stops the cooking process and prevents the eggs from overcooking.

4. Transfer to the ice bath

Transfer cooked eggs to the ice bath and let them sit for 8-10 minutes to cool.

5. Peel eggs

Remove the eggs from the ice bath, dry with a clean dish towel or paper towel. Gently tap the shell on the counter to break the shell.

Roll the egg lightly and peel eggs starting from the wider end where the air pocket usually forms. Rinse again under the faucet to remove any remaining little flecks of eggshell.

Tips for the best Air Fryer Hard-Boiled Eggs:

‘Older’ eggs peel easier than ‘fresh’ eggs:

As eggs age (1-2 weeks) are significantly easier to peel than fresh eggs so you’ll want to buy them about a week before Easter or when you’re planning to use them. This is especially true if you’re buy from farm stands where eggs are at their peak freshness.

Air fryers vary

Different air fryer wattage levels can affect cooking times.

My Ninja 4-quart (1550 watt) cooks perfectly at the times listed, but you may need to adjust the cook timer slightly to suit your air fryer.

Always use an ice bath

Don’t skip the ice bath. It immediately stops the cooking process and prevents eggs from overcooking (think rubbery whites or green, chalky yolks!). The ice bath also makes the eggs much easier to peel.

Cook in a single layer

Arrange eggs in a single layer so the hot air circulates evenly.

Storing hard boiled eggs:

Cool completely then store in an air tight container or in their shells in the refrigerator up to one week.

My Air Fryer doesn’t go to 250 degrees – HELP!

If your air fryer doesn’t have a 250 degree option, don’t worry – mine doesn’t either!

Check other cook modes on your air fryer. On my Ninja, the ROAST setting allow for 250 degrees so that’s what I use.
