- The base of the drink: fresh squeezed lemon juice from several large lemons
- Fresh blueberries and sugar simmered to make blueberry simple syrup
- Your favorite vodka
- water
Blueberry Simple Syrup:
The blueberry simple syrup is made of equal parts water, sugar and blueberries.
- granulated sugar
- fresh blueberries
- water
- You’ll also need a fine mesh sieve to strain the berries.
- If wild blueberries are in season where you are, they’d be delicious in this recipe.
How to make Blueberry Vodka Lemonade:
Blueberry Simple Syrup:
Add blueberries, sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 8-10 minutes or until the sugar is dissolved and the berries have burst.
As the berries are simmering, use a fork or the back of a spoon to gently mash the berries.
Drain the syrup through the fine mesh sieve into a glass jar or container getting as much of the juice without pushing the berries through. Discard the remaining berry skins. Cool completely and refrigerate.
NOTE: this can be made up to 3 days ahead of time.
Lemon Juice:
Using a citrus juicer, squeeze lemons to get about 1 cup of lemon juice.
Assembly:
To a pitcher add lemon juice, vodka and blueberry syrup. Stir to combine.
Add ice to glasses then fill with Blueberry Vodka Lemonade.
Garnish with lemon slices, blueberries and a sprig of fresh mint then enjoy right away!
Variations to this recipe:
- Add a splash of club soda just before serving for a bubbly cocktail.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves instead of mint.
- Try other fresh fruit simple syrup like blackberry or raspberry.
- Add triple sec for an extra punch of citrus.
